Marketing at The App Store

It is always nice when you got several million dollars to spend it all in a big marketing budget. You can do traditional advertising, a little TV ad perhaps. Unfortunately most app developers are not in that situation and usually it's a shoestring budget and sometimes with no money at all to spend on marketing their app.

So what they depend on is, what sort of traffic can they generate on the stores? You have to look very carefully at how the store is structured to run a series of experiments. Be willing to run several experiments and see what works best. Try it for about a week and see how it goes and will be to change it which means you need to be watching very carefully how the traffic is working, and how many people are downloading or using your app.

A lot of developers are making mistakes of changing things of several things at the same time which we do not recommend because you will not be able to tell which one one is actually working and which one is not. So one at a time, you can try strategies and then if it does not work go and try another one and see how it goes. So be willing to experiment and make sure that they are carefully controlled experiments and make sure that they are controlled the right way.

Second, is to look at the structure of the site and think about the process by which a customer is coming to you in deciding to get your application. Think of it kind of as though, people are standing in line for a movie and that you are always losing people out of the line. Maybe, they are vaguely interested at the start, but now it is not moving fast enough and they are going to drift off or get out of the line. And every point in time you will be shedding customers.

So you have to think of ways how to reduce that process by which you are shedding customers. How do you suck them in as quickly as possible? How do you keep them standing in line? How do you get them in lobby and make them sit as quickly as possible so that they can buy your popcorn?

Understanding how the users search for an app, that is gonna get you to a list. Make sure you are high on that particular list. So understanding the standard keywords that your users are likely to use for a search.

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Property

Everybody dreams of owning a house at one point of time. But possessing a house is no joke. It requires careful consideration and planning to make such a heavy investment. A lot many things have to be kept in mind before buying any property. The main concern is finance but there are so many other things that are directly related to it.

Here are some factors that should be considered before buying a property:

1) Stability of income: Doing well in your work and earning good money may excite you to buy property at the moment. But it is very important to analyze your financial condition before making any big purchase. How stable your job is at the moment, will your salary increase in some time, what are your other expenses and how safe is it to invest in an asset are some of the most important questions to answer. If you’re uncertain of your future income situation, then picking up a mortgage isn’t a really good idea at the moment. Wait for some time and save more money for down payment.

2) Credit Score: A credit score is a statistical number that depicts a person’s creditworthiness. Lenders use a credit score to evaluate the possibility of a person to repay his debts. It also determines the rate of interest at which the mortgage will be given if it gets approved by the bank or creditors.

3) Personal commitments: What are your personal goals? What expenses do you see in the near future? Are you getting married or planning a baby? What are the expenses that may delay your mortgage buying? All these events will incur heavy expenses and may delay your property buying task. Ask these questions to yourself and consult your dear ones before planning to take such a major step.

4) Real Estate scenario: What is the real estate trend in your area? Are the property prices going upwards or are in a stable state. If the prices have gone up, will your finances allow you to make that purchase? Some area of your city may be attracting a lot many builders hence the rate of property might be on an upsurge. If the prices are going down, you may be lucky in buying your desired property at affordable rate.

5) Expectations from the property: Buying a home may be for different purposes- it could be for your own use or may be your second home i.e. investment. Since investing in real estate is considered to be the safest bet, a lot many people buy homes and put it on rent to get returns. If you are buying it for your own purpose, you may prefer a specific locality or a specific area, but if buying for investment, you may overlook such points and just concentrate on buying a property that may suit your budget.

Teaching Tips – Using the 4 "P’s" of Powerful Teaching

Great teaching does not happen just because you show up to school. In order to be a great teacher, you must be willing to work and work hard. You must continually work at improving your skills, obtaining more knowledge and furthering your development if you are to become a great teacher.

Let’s face it, on every campus from elementary to the university if you ask students who their favorite teacher is the same few names will continually come up. Would you like to be one of these teachers? If your answer is “Yes” then you need to read the following principles, learn these principles and put these principles into action.

The 4 “P’s” of Powerful Teaching

If you are going to be an effective teacher you must be prepared, and preparation comes from careful planning. You must know what you are going to present and how you are going to present it. Then you must practice, practice, practice. You must become comfortable with the material and be ready to answer any questions the students might ask. Planning ahead will make you look knowledgeable, professional and polished.

In order to be a great teacher you must be persistent. You cannot give up or quit at the first sign of trouble. You must be willing to help solve problems, give a little extra and go the extra mile. Great teaching seldom happens overnight, it comes from consistently applying yourself to problems and overcoming the problems.

The teacher who desires to impact the lives of her students will have an abundance of patience. Patience is necessary to show your students that you care and are willing to wait till they get it. It’s not important that you cover every topic in the book, what counts is that your students learn what you covered. Always remember, if you didn’t create a memory then you didn’t teach anything.

“Anyone can dabble, but once you’ve made that commitment, your blood has that particular thing in it, and it’s very hard for people to stop you.” – Bill Cosby

Great teaching comes from the teacher with passion. If you aren’t passionate about your teaching please don’t teach. Teaching is not a job it is a profession. In order to be great you must have a fire burning inside you.

How to Become a Fashion Designer

Is Fashion Your Passion? If you've always dreamed of becoming a successful designer, read on to learn more about how you can realize your dream and become a fashion designer.

The three most fundamental skills required to become a fashion designer are: sewing, drawing, and creativity. You can always learn both drawing and sewing in fashion school (actually, those are typically mandatory classes), but creativity is something you must have in your blood.

Beside the skills listed above, you need the following skills to become successful no matter what your career path is: motivation, determination, and commitment.

If you are serious about becoming a fashion designer, the first and most important step you'll need to take is to enroll in a good fashion design program at an accredited institute. The advantage of going to school is that you'll be taught everything you need to know in a well structured, organized environment. You'll learn the industry standards, how to accomplish required tasks efficiently, get hands on experience with the latest industry technology, and learn exactly what needs to be done to break into the fashion world and how to go about doing it well. Additional benefits include potential internships with well known companies and excellent networking opportunities.

If you're sure you want a career in fashion but are not certain as to which path is right for you, here are a few options to get you thinking: fashion design, accessory design, apparel design, fashion merchandising, fashion marketing and fashion Journalism.

As with any career, a solid plan and a good education are essential. This might be even truer in fashion design, as it is definitely not an easy industry to break into. That should not discourage you however, and if you are discouraged that easily then this probably is not the right career for you. But with hard work, dedication, and a little bit of luck, there's no stopping you from becoming the next Coco Channel or Calvin Klein.

A good first step is to pick a few good fashion schools and get some information from them regarding their programs. This can all be done quite easily now as most schools now have short "information package request" forms right on their websites. They're usually pretty short forms, you fill them out and they mail you an information package which outlines their programs in details. It's definitely worth looking into if you really are serious about getting into the fashion industry.

Type 2 Diabetes – How Much Weight Have You Lost Recently?

I'm going to assume you have the intention to lose weight, or that that would have benefited you to shed a few pounds. Ideally, it is going to be both assumptions. Which brings me to the following question: how much weight have you lost recently? Now, if you have not had the intention to lose weight, it may seem a ridiculous question to answer. But if you have, you may be about to face an internal conflict: most people are not as successful with weight loss as they would like to be!

But guess what, that is okay. There is nothing wrong with having a hard time. Losing weight, from beginning to end, is far from easy. Sometimes it is necessary to ask yourself the hard questions because it is then the honest answers come. The answers that help you find the motivation to get to work and set things straight.

Weight loss is an interesting topic. It is relevant for many adults but less so for teenagers and children: weight gain tends to occur slowly over an extended period meaning various degrees of obesity are prevalent in adults. Regrettably, however, we now see higher numbers of obesity in our youth than we saw in the past. Obesity is now well represented in most age groups, notably due to poor lifestyle habits and unhealthy eating.

Since weight loss is relevant for many adults, it has likely been on your mind. Losing 20 pounds …

  • Getting lean once more, and
  • Attaining manageable blood sugar levels,

Are all common goals for most.

If you have been thinking about losing weight, then you need to be honest with yourself. Are you happy with your recent progress? Maybe there is little to talk about, which may make you feel a failure. Or, you have not given it a serious shot, because your intentions have not been strong enough.

What is important is being honest with yourself. The truth could hurt. But in that case, it would help set you on the right course.

Weight loss requires persistence. It requires healthy eating and physical activity. It takes commitment. But the benefits are endless. As an example, reducing your weight will lower your blood sugar levels and reduce your insulin resistance. For those that know little about Type 2 diabetes, this could result in adding years to your life. Time is our most precious resource, yet many often forget this in pursuit of other things.

Maybe you have not made much progress after deciding to shed some body fat. But you do have it in you to ensure your next step is a leap in the right direction – even if you happen to take a step or two backward. You just may not know it yet – that's all.

Starting a Home-Based Internet Business

Whatever your background, your education, your previous employment, your gender or your life experience everyone starting a home-based internet business is beginning on a level playing field. Perhaps someone whose background is in some form of offline marketing has certain advantages because of their understanding of the marketing process but they will still have many new skills to acquire especially in respect of the technical side of the business.

There will be newcomers to the business whose background is in computer technology. They will have certain advantages with regard to the technical aspects of the business but will still have to learn about the marketing and copywriting side of things. There will be others who come from the retail trade. They will have useful experience when it comes to the actual selling but will find many new things that they need to learn to acquire a comprehensive picture of the whole business. Almost everyone will have some attributes which will help in the development of their business; experience or knowledge that they can bring to the table.

There are skills required to be successful in starting an online business; none of them is particularly difficult and all can be learnt. If you are prepared to put in the time and the effort to learn these skills then there is nothing to stop you being a successful online entrepreneur whatever your background. Many people attracted to the idea of starting a home-based online business back off when they come to realise how many new things they need to take on board. There is no need to fear! With internet marketing, if you follow the plan you will succeed.

If you can seek out a mentor, someone who has the knowledge and experience to guide you, someone who can show you how to start an online business, this will be of great benefit. If you can find someone who both’ talks the talk’ and ‘walks the walk’ you will find their support and advice immensely helpful. In the absence of such a person, the next best option is to subscribe to a quality online course, of which there are many. If you go down this particular route, however, choose the course with care. Before signing up to anything and making a financial commitment, do an internet search of the company or individual to whom you are thinking of subscribing. If there is anything shady about them or their course, a simple Google search will reveal this.

How long it takes to get your business up and running really doesn’t matter. We are all different, coming from different walks of life with different skill-sets and with different perspectives of exactly what we want to get from the business. When it comes to starting a home-based internet business, it takes as long as it takes! Some people set off like a railway train whilst others begin more slowly and tentatively. Work at your own pace and get it right. This is far preferable to rushing things and making costly mistakes in the process thus proving the old adage of “more haste, less speed”. I’m sure you all know the fable of “The Hare and the Tortoise”. Also remember the lyrics of the 1970s song by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields which says “It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish”. See you at the finishing line!

Reconstruction Costs

Have you done a major renovation to your home lately? If you have, it will likely affect the reconstruction costs associated with rebuilding your home and it is a recommended time for a conversation with your insurance professional. Remembering to regularly review your home coverage with an insurance professional is a good step towards maintaining a level of insurance adequate to rebuild your home, in case of disaster.

So why else do reconstruction costs differ from a home’s market value or even the cost of new construction? Reconstruction costs can be affected by a number of factors, including but not limited to:

  • Economies of Scale – When houses are originally built, it is usually a case of many homes being constructed at the same time. This means that materials and fixtures required for the builds can be purchased by the contractor in one transaction, and often at a bulk rate. Just as buying 50 or 100 bathtubs at the same time will cost less per unit than buying just one, you can apply the same economic benefit to buying almost anything else required for home construction in quantity as well. This can add up to thousands of dollars in savings when compared to single home builds.
  • Reverse Reconstruction – New construction almost always follows the pattern of establishing a foundation and building up from there. When reconstruction is required, and you need to rebuild a home that isn’t a total loss, you need to start by pulling off the roof and working from the top down. As this process is labour-intensive, and takes more time to accomplish, it is generally more expensive as well.
  • Site Preparation – When a home needs to be reconstructed, the site it sits on needs to prepared before any new construction can proceed. This usually means additional costs for demolition of any remaining (unusable) structure and removal of the resulting debris. In cases of intense fire, soil remediation may be required as well. In new construction projects, site preparation is usually limited to costs for brush removal and grading.
  • Labour Costs – Having tradespeople such as carpenters, brick layers, drywallers, electricians, plumbers, roofers, and painters all onsite for an extended period of time can aid in scheduling and efficient usage. If a particular home isn’t ready for work requiring their specific expertise, they can probably be moved to work on a home that is. This flexibility in scheduling is not usually possible when working on a single home, and has a huge impact on overall costs when you consider that labour is one of the largest components of reconstruction costs.
  • Accessibility – Reconstruction of a destroyed home is often required in established neighbourhoods with mature trees, lawns, landscaping, and fences. These and other obstructions may limit access to the worksite and thereby increase costs in getting needed reconstruction materials to the worksite.
  • Older and Custom Homes – Reconstruction of older or custom homes generally must include the replacement of features and finishes which are considered unusual when compared to more conventional homes. Whether the reconstruction materials are scarce due to age or classified as “high-end,” the expectation is that they will be more expensive to replace. Some examples of expensive to replace home elements can include tile or slate roofs or floors; lath and plaster walls; wainscoting; ceilings covered in tin, with exposed beams, or custom-shaped; solid wood doors; ornamental fireplaces; leaded or stained glass windows; shaped staircases; and custom ironwork.
  • Updated Building Codes – In cases when houses are more than a few years old, it should be the normal expectation that building codes will have changed since the home was originally built. Adhering to newer codes may require rewiring, replumbing, use of safety glass, or working with fire-retardant roofing materials.
  • Natural Disasters – If your home was damaged or destroyed due to a natural disaster, it is likely that other homes in your area similarly have to be repaired or rebuilt. In this case, it is not uncommon for material and labour costs to be higher due to shortages and increased demand for both.
  • Partial Damage – If your home was only damaged and not destroyed, the remaining structure must be protected from looting and the prospect of further damage. In usual cases, personal property must be placed in storage offsite until the home can be repaired. To prevent further damage, plastic sheeting material is usually used to temporarily cover parts of the remaining structure exposed to the elements.
  • Permits and Fees – Reconstruction may require permits, home inspection fees, and architecture/engineering fees.
  • Inflation – It’s no secret that costs for both materials and labour continue to rise due to inflation. Depending on when the reconstruction cost of your home was originally estimated, it may cost more to complete the project today.

For the reasons outlined above, reconstruction costs can differ significantly from market value and the cost of new construction. Be properly prepared for a disaster by regularly reviewing your coverage with an insurance professional. Remember, the adequacy of your home insurance coverage depends upon accurate information about your home’s size, location, age, unusual features, and finishes as well as specifics regarding any renovations or additions. The more fully you disclose the relevant information about your home, the more fully your coverage can protect you in case of a disaster.

Forex Investment – The Risks

Forex investment is being advertised across all forms of media right now as a great way to make money. The advertisers insist that it is an easy and profitable way to invest your money and let's face it under the current economic climate we are all looking for an easy low risk option to make some extra cash. So let's take a closer look at forex, understand what it is and evaluate the true risks.

Forex is an acronym for 'foreign exchange' and forex investment trading is a form of investment by taking advantage of the movements or exchange differences between foreign currencies.

Because the rate of exchange between a pair of contracts is constantly changing, it is possible for a shrewd trader to make a lot of money by accurately predicting these changes. It's very similar to trading in stocks and shares on the stock market, you buy when the price is low and sell when the price is high.

As is common with investing in the stock market, forex traders can take a medium to long term view based on a steady drift in currency prices over a period of time. However, the advertising suggests short term gains and to be fair, this is what most forex traders do. They use trading skills and techniques to make reliably small gains over a short period and repeat the process over and over.

A forex trader will buy a currency when he thinks it will rise in price. This is called opening a trade. A closing trade is when he sells a currency because he thinks it price is about to fall. Often he will open and close a trade within minutes. The skill is in watching the markets and recognizing a pattern developing which he knows from experience will lead to an upward or down trend and thebyy chooses to jump in and open or close a trade.

Many traders use a system which either they have developed themselves over many trades or they buy an 'off the shelf' system which can provide a short cut through the learning curve to becoming a successful trader. This is what most of the advertisements are trying to sell and it is necessary to be very wary about some of the claims made with some of these systems. There is also software available which automate the whole process and robots open and close the trades for you based upon parameters built into the software. There are one or two of these robot systems emerging in the marketplace now which look very promising (I post monthly reviews of such products on my blog).

With the ever increasing accessibility and popularity of the internet, brokers have designated the opportunity to attract a lot of a new breed of investor to the forex investment market – people with relatively small funds can begin with just a few hundred dollars. Many are encouraged to think that they can make a lot of money in a short time and are often disappointed. It is necessary to learn some specific skills and require a lot of self discipline to be successful. It takes time, motivation and commitment.

Some people take up forex investment simply because they are looking for a new challenge. Maybe they already invest in the stock market and are looking at other ways of increasing their portfolio of investments. These people are more likely to succeed because they have a better understanding of the risks and are prepared with sufficient funds to lose from time to time. The skill comes in making more gains than losses over a period of time.

There are many influences on the market and some of them completely unpredictable even to the most experienced trader. Take opponents such as the terrorist attack on the Trade Center in New York on 11 September 2001 for example. It is wise to set up an automatic stop loss if things suddenly turn against the trade. A stop loss is a pre-determined amount your trade is allowed to lose before it is automatically closed. A very sensible precaution.

In summary, forex investment has risk attached to it but it is a risk that can be controlled and managed provided you learn the skills, tricks and techniques required before becoming heavily involved.

What Does the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval Mean?

What is Good Housekeeping?

Good Housekeeping (GH) started in 1885 as a magazine with a mission. “A mission to fulfill compounded of about equal portions of public duty and private enterprise… to produce and perpetuate perfection as may be obtained in the household.” To achieve those high standards, GH Magazine made a commitment to only advertising the very best products. Still to this day, for GH to even accept advertising from any product, the GH Research Institute must first approve. From that point it has the opportunity to receive the ultimate vote of confidence – The GH Seal.

What is a Good Housekeeping Seal & What Does it Mean?

Since 1909, the Seal has backed worthy products while simultaneously validating consumer purchases. According to GH, its seal is “an emblem of the magazine’s consumer policy.” That consumer policy promises a full refund or replacement of a defective product within two years of its purchase, given that the product has been backed with a Seal. That’s one heck of a promise, considering that GH, and not the company that created the product, is picking up the cost of a refund or replacement. That being said, GH doesn’t just go handing out their stamp of approval to just any old product.

How does a Product Earn the Good Housekeeping Seal?

The first step in receiving a GH Seal is to apply. If accepted, the product and its promises will now be tested at the GH Research Institute (GHRI) by researchers, scientists, engineers and nutritionists according to its area for intended use. The GHRI is a product-evaluation laboratory that tests everything from electronics to cosmetics, to the very recipes they print in their magazine.

The Green Good Housekeeping Seal

Keeping up with the energy conservation movement, GH added a new kind of seal in 2009. The Green GH Seal is intended to help consumers, wishing to make strides towards an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly household, in finding the products that actually back up their “green” claims. Once a product receives the Seal, it could then apply for the Green GH Seal. From a product’s manufacturing, all the way to its packaging and performance, the GHRI rigorously tests applicants according to their category’s requirements. Electronics, paper goods, beauty and cleaning products, food, beverages, paint and coatings can all be tested for environmental responsibility and impact, as well as social responsibility.

Why GH Seal Products?

Trusting the Seal is an especially good idea when remodeling or renovating your home. A Seal guarantees longevity and as-promised performance. Windows, doors and large appliances can all be found with both the GH and Green GH Seal. When you choose a product with the Seal, you’re choosing a product backed by a company with over 100 years of consumer advocacy. Look for the seal. Shop confidently.

Healthy Relationship Tip – Trade Treasure Maps to Rediscover Gold in Your Relationship

I know you're concerned about improving the state of your relationship, but let's talk for a minute about you. When did you last feel loved and cared for? What helps you feel that way? It's harder to take time to nurture yourself when faced with a strained relationship. You can probably rattle off a laundry list of troubles, but can not come up with what makes you feel loved and cared for. Yet is not feeling loved and cared for what you want in a healthy relationship?

It's what he wants too.

Once upon a time you both loved discovering what pleased the other. You relished any interests you had in common. Where did that go? We will not point fingers or assign blame for why your life turned into a pressure cooker. You want a healthy relationship. Here's a way you can reduce the heat and steam.

Some time when you're not arguing, sit down with your man and each make a list of what makes you feel loved and cared for. If your man is like mine, he'll declare he hates writing stuff down, he knows already, he's not a kid in school. Tell him these are treasure maps for each other, because neither one of you is a mind reader.

If you're like me, you'll have to think hard about what pleases you. Do not limit yourself to what you think he will or will not do for you. Put down whatever brings you joy, even if it includes how a sleeping puppy breathes and twitches. Do you love waking up to the smell of coffee? Put it down. This is you.

Need some examples? Here's what I came up with that makes me feel loved and cared for:
Him wrapping his arms around me from behind as I work
Him cooking my supper
Clean sheets on the bed
Being hear
An hour or two on the couch together while I knit, he reads, and sometimes we talk
Good movies

Now exchange lists. As you study your partner's list, a couple things may surprise you. You may wonder how a Harley-Davidson motorcycle creates a healthy relationship, but keep reading. Does he want a back scrub in the tub? His favorite meal three times a week? One real kiss a day? Maybe you can not cough up a Harley, but make a commitment to do some of those things and see what happens.
