Wedding Shoes to Kill Your Blues

Oxford street seemed to get longer and hotter every time Jesse exited another shop. This time, outside John Lewis she leant against the doorway and gazed into the distance. Surely she was not running out of shops? She sighed and prepared herself to start the hunt again. Dizziness stopped her in her tracks and she realized that she must rest for a while. Why had she left this late in the day? Why had she stubbornly refused her mother's offers of help to organize the wedding when she would have given her more time to put together her own outfit and would probably have healed the gulf in their relationship?

Jesse walked straight back into the store she had just left because at least there she knew where the coffee shop was. She also knew she had only a matter of hours before the shops closed and her hunt for wedding shoes would be over. Tomorrow she would walk into the office office in shoes that are too clumpy for that lovely lace blouse that grandma had given her years ago. She had only to replace a missing button to have the sweetest top and then she had actually made the silk skirt herself but the wedding shoes were driving her mad; None of them seemed right.

She was almost weeping with frustration when a gentle voice said 'may I sit here? I just can not shop for as long as I used to. Thank goodness this lovely restaurant is still here. ' She paused and then continued. 'But hark at me babbling on. My names Mrs Whooton, or Mary, 'she added with a smile. Jesse looked up without enthusiasm, she had no time to chat but as she was too tired to move anyway she told her her name. Mary reached for Jesse's hand and squeezed it gently. 'It sometimes helps to share a trouble.' Jesse looked amazed. 'Oh, it's written all over your face my dear. Tell an old lady and you might be surprised by what she knows. '

Jesse looked at the woman's softly round, powdered face, gray hair escaping in small whisps from a shapeless brown hat; Then she saw the large clock hands just touching the four and a moment's panic made her sob out loud. 'Come on my dear,' Mary said encouragingly. 'Tell me what's troubling you.' Jesse was surprised by how quickly the story spilled out of her mouth, even including her problems with speaking to her mother and of course finishing with the story of the wedding shoes.

'Your granny's blouse was Victorian then?' She asked curiously. Jesse nodded. 'Then I do not suppose you know of a small boutique in Jordan street do you? It's sort of overshadowed by the new shops but it specializes in Victorian costumes. There might be something there that would suit. ' Jesse's eyes widened with hope. 'Where's Jordan Street?' She gathered herself together and thanked Mary. 'Oh I just hope they can help you, she said, then added' Your mother, Jesse, you know she only wants to make sure you're alright. ' Jesse nodded suddenly finding a lump in her throat at the mention of her mother. 'Call her my dear. You will not regret it. '

Jesse almost ran to the shop in Jordan Street where she found a treasure trove of Victorian garments. Most importantly she found the perfect wedding shoes to match her silk skirt and lace blouse. As she straightened up to smile at the old man serving her, she glimpsed in a mirror the smiling round face of Mrs Whooton, just taking the hat pin out of her shapeless brown hat.

Security for Your Patients’ Electronic Records

You need to keep your patients’ electronic data secure to meet both HIPAA and Meaningful Use requirements, but of course beyond that, it is the right thing to do. Your patients entrust you with sensitive information that could be used by criminals to wreck their credit and to provide private medical information to employers or others that they didn’t want made public.

An objective for Meaningful Use requires doctors to protect electronic health information created or maintained by the certified EHR technology through the implementation of appropriate technical capabilities. They don’t specifically state what those “appropriate technical capabilities” are so that you can choose the appropriate ones for your practice now, and as technology changes, you can change with it.

The HIPAA Security Rule lists four types of safeguards you must implement. They are administrative safeguards, physical safeguards, organizational standards and policies and procedures. Part of the administrative safeguard is a security risk analysis. This isn’t something you do once and you’re done; it is ongoing and must be revisited at least annually. It isn’t something you can just delegate to your EHR vendor. You can find details in the Guide to Privacy and Security of Electronic Health Information from healthit.gov. Especially look at Chapter 4.

Cyber security, or security through the Internet, is an important part of mitigating risk. In order to send electronic claims, e-prescribe, send C-CDAs to your patients’ portals, and use the Infobutton to obtain educational material, Internet access is required.

Good hosting facilities protect your data with secure firewalls such as Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASAs) and with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Safe practices include using anti-virus software and limiting the websites your staff members can access to only those that are necessary for the software to function and for claims to be sent. Good hosting facilities will load the latest software and firmware updates for all digital devices.

In your office potential threats can come from email and other websites onto your PCs and your server, if you host your own software. Email can carry viruses and phishing attempts. Phishing, according to TechTarget SearchSecurity, is “a form of fraud in which the attacker tries to learn information such as login credentials or account information by masquerading as a reputable entity or person in email, IM or other communication channels.” Ransomware can be hiding in a link or attachment in an email. Ransomware is malware that stops you from using your computer until you pay the ransom. It can encrypt files or stop certain applications from running. There is no guarantee that paying the ransom will correct the problems it created. Websites can be sources of viruses and other types of malware.

How can you avoid these threats? Teach your staff members not to click on anything that looks suspicious whether it is an attachment in an email or a link. Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date. Load updates to your operating system and to your firmware on digital devices. Give users only the access they need to do their work. Limit surfing the web and other non-work activities to keep your data, PCs and network safe.

The Essential Elements Of A Contract

A contract is simply a binding promise between parties which a court will enforce if not carried out. Contracts are essential for modern life. Without them commerce could not happen as people could not rely on the promises of another if anyone could just pull out of their commitments at any time.

So how are contracts formed? Well there are several elements to make a valid contract.

1. There needs to be an offer from one party to another. An example of an offer would be "I will paint your house for $ 500". The offer here obviously being to pain the house for $ 500.

2. The offer must be accepted by the other party. This is key for the creation of the contract. Without a valid acceptance then there can not be said to be an agreement between the parties. It is important to note that where an offer is made by the first party and a counter offer is made by the second party then this brings the first offer to an end.

3. There needs to be consideration in the contract. Consideration is when both parties offer something of value in return for the other promise. That something can be anything of value to the person providing it (eg money, services, physical goods etc).

4. The parties to the contract must intend that the promise will be legally binding. Lots of promises are made rashly and. Only those promises which are supposedly to be legally binding will benefit from the protection of the courts.

Book Review: SOAR

Mystery books from Indian authors are few and far between, so any such book should interest the average reader just by being. SOAR is not just a mystery book but is actually a mystery set in the modern world and could be tagged as a 'business-thriller'. This is the complete review of SOAR written by Abir Mukherjee.

SOAR begins with the story of a young man, newly married, who is working in the United States, and living with his wife. The reader is introduced to the kind of life that the man lives in the US and the cracks that are forming in his married life. And just when the readers think that all of it is going to implode, he is summoned immediately to India to help out his friends and co-founders of a business that he had bid goodbye to years ago.

Abir Mukherjee weaves an interesting tale that is a mixture of intrigue, drama, bittersweet life memories and emotions. Everything that a seasoned writer would have is there – the road less traveled one, that of non linear storytelling, the filling of characters by just telling the readers about accidents from their life, both past and present and other such nitty-gritty that makes SOAR An interesting read.

The best part of the writing is that Abir pays equal attention to the times when the protagonist was growing up with his group of friends, his love story back then, the tumultuous relationship that he has with his friends and wife now and the mystery that threatens To capsize their lives forever.

It is evident from the beginning that Abir is not a lazy writer. Not only does he work hard to tell the readers about how exactly the life of a IT professional is, he also goes on to explain the entire process of how the friends set up their own product – which is the one that finally throws them into the Jaws of trouble.

And just because he can, the author also gives a brief insight into the legal system and how a person can fall into a legal tangle in this big bad world.

The book is a decent mystery that has the right answers for anyone interested in what would be considered to be a digital crime – one concept that is even now just being tackled by not just Indian but even foreign authors. SOARS requires a hat tip just for that.

The one thing that rankings though is the manner in which the writing style dithers as the book progresses. What starts as an interesting style that shifts through the incidents to one that turns verbose and includes too much of jargon.

This is just the book that Indian fiction needs today, one of those that make the readers interested in what the author has written earlier and will be writing next.

Why Do Some Guys Want to Commit So Fast? Learn the Reasons Why Some Guys Are So Quick

It has kind of become like a norm that most men either hate to get into commitments or take a long time in doing so. So, it does come as a surprise to women when their man is overly eager to get committed. Below may be some reasons for that.

Reasons from the past
Maybe he has been in a relationship where he loved his woman and was absolutely committed to her and spending plenty of time and effort only to be dumped by her. So maybe his past insecurities are making him rush if he feels that you are the right one for him.

He is head over heels in love with you
Everyone has heard of the love at first sight syndrome. It is possible that something like this has happened to him regarding you. He has eyes only for you and you have become his center of universe. So, obviously he sees no reason for any delay of any sort.

He may have territorial instincts
Now every woman has their set of admirers. If he is in some way interested in you, then his natural instincts would tell him to put a fence around you in an effort to keep the other guys at bay while he take his time to sort out his own feelings about you. In his mind he just wants the security that you do not fall for someone else in case he wants you for himself.

He is completely sure of his feelings
It is human nature for the mind and heart to be in conflict most times. But it can be that he in his whole being is very sure that you are the one and only for him. He will then find no reason for waiting.

His mind has made him insecure about you
Now he might very much be in love with you and if at all he has seen something in your behavior or mannerisms that tell him that you might be losing interest in him, he will just push the panic button and offer his commitment sooner than you think Due to fear of losing you.

Maybe he has been there forever on the scene
It might be possible that he has gone around and dated a lot of women in the past only to have been disappointed by every one of them in some way or the other. And so if he likes you, he feels the need to be quick for commitment before his mind undergoes a change too.

That need to feel settled
Bachelor days are not going to be around forever. Every man at some point of time in life wants to settle down. And if he feels that you are that special one for him, he certainly is not going to hang around for long.

To Be a Lady in 2016

There are as many definitions of 'lady' as there are dictionaries. Webster defines our topic as, "noun: a woman who behaves in a polite way; a woman of high social position; a man's girlfriend." In Old English, it means female head of household. The Urban Dictionary gives us a couple of definitions to choose from.

The choices include, "In poker, a pair of queens," and "Any female is a woman, or will be, but, being a Lady takes work and it is not inborn, it is a practice, a fine art and takes Focus and consideration. " According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, this is a general title given European women of noble birth or marriage. The word is associated, primarily, with a gentle, kind woman of good education. She is in control of herself at all times, practices proper hygiene and grooming, is good mannered, well versed in accepted formal and informal etiquette, and genially puts others comfort over her own. It is a fading art in our modern world. It takes a commitment to excellence and to living a more reserved lifestyle that many women of today find cumbersome and stifling. To think before speaking, willingly take a backseat in a discussion, approach dressing with a conservative eye, to run a household with grace and ease … well, let's just say that girls of today find these qualities too confining or an affront to their Liberated status. They have become accustomed to being in the limelight and feel entitled to the label without displaying the rendered conduct.

While subservience plays a part and has a place and time in a lady's life, contrary to popular belief, it is not the backbone of her existence. A woman that is self-assured, steadfast, and possesses strong morals, ethics, and values has no need to grandstand. Her character is reflected by her behavior. It, by no means, infers that she is less than. Actually, her behavior leaves others to believe quite the opposite. Is it possible, then, for a woman in this day and age to acquire the attributes of "lady-ism"?

Are there other completed women that can provide an example to be followed? Which of these women are worthy of emulation? There is, of course, Jackie-O and Mrs. President Johnson, but, they may be a bit far removed for the young women coming of age now. Princess Diana's poise and grace is ageless; Timeless. Kate Middleton provides us with yet another fine example.

The majority of women learn "how to" from their mother, their aunt, a grandmother. This is how skills were handed down from generation to generation. Society has become less invested in the extended family and so, traditions and ways of living have been lost to the past. Tv and movie stars, bands and solo artists have become the examples of "how to" for our young women.

They learn to live in a way that approves failure, lack of commitment, instant gratification, and the "it's-all-about-me" attitude. A return to social grace, established morals, ethics, and values, a promise to and pride in a well rounded and stable family can only be a move towards the positive. The art of being a real lady is an art worth reviving in 2016, I say. It may not bring about world peace, but it is a step in the right direction.

Wanted – A New Generation of Environmental Leaders

“Each and every one of us can make changes in the way we live our lives and become part of the solution [to climate change.]”

Al Gore, Nobel Prize Winner and 45th Vice President of the United States

Do you want to be part of the solution to Climate Change? There has been a massive increase in media coverage and awareness of climate change over the last few years. What we now need is leadership that will turn our awareness and anxiety into the will to take action, and then follow through with long-term solutions. At every level, from communities and businesses to national governments and the United Nations, we need leaders more than at any time in our history. Environmental Leadership is the most important element in confronting the urgent challenge of Climate Change.

Why is Environmental Leadership so Important?

The Planet is in crisis. There is almost complete consensus amongst scientists that climate change is a major and dangerous threat to both humanity and the ecosystems of the planet. The greater need is not for more science or data to prove there is a problem, but for leadership to tackle this issue head on.

Convert knowledge into Action. We have the knowledge to tackle this crisis. There are already a wide range of available technologies, tax instruments and policies that could mitigate climate change and eventually reduce the threat. Strong leadership would greatly accelerate their implementation and effectiveness

We have the financial resources. The nearly trillion dollars spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan war would have gone a long way to tackling climate change. Indeed, the irony is that spending money on alternatives to fossil fuels would reduce dependence on oil from areas of high risk and conflict, which would in turn save money and reduce the risk of war. It is environmental leadership that will provide the vision, the will and the ingenuity to divert resources towards dealing with climate change.

Public Demand for Leadership. Public awareness and pressure for change has never been higher. Al Gore and the IPCC have just won the Nobel Peace Prize. Every survey shows strong popular support for action, including in the USA. People are looking to business to provide leadership. In 2007 the Cone Consumer Survey reported that 93% of Americans believe companies have a responsibility to help preserve the environment. http://www.coneinc.com/content69.html

We cannot do it on our own. Unfortunately the scale and intricacy of the required changes are beyond individuals to bring about on their own; our behaviours are intricately embedded in complex socio-economic systems dependent on fossil fuels. Leadership is required in business to develop low-cost renewable energy; in government to provide the incentives and regulation to promote renewable energies and reduce carbon emissions; and across society to encourage new values and behaviours which ensure we change our lifestyles and adopt renewables.

What is an Environmental Leader?

Environmental leaders are agents of change. They create urgency, develop an inspiring vision and mobilise people to take action towards achieving their environmental mission. They are imaginative and flexible, finding ways to align organisational and environmental goals whatever type of activity they engage in.

Environmental Leaders are motivated by feelings of connection and love for the earth. They want more than just a payslip from their day’s efforts. They know that to achieve their full potential, they need a cause that is greater than their own self-interest. They do well by doing good.

They know they are part of nature and that everyone’s well-being ultimately depends on the well-being of our ecosystems, which support life itself. Living sustainably means being compassionate to all species, and this includes humans. When people live sustainably, they are looking after current and future generations. They are acting as stewards, accountable to our children and grandchildren. This is authentic leadership.

How do I become an Environmental Leader?

You can start anywhere – at home, at college, in the office or in your community. The key is to take action. If you want to integrate your personal values and your professional career then there are a number of exciting options for you in business, non-profits and the public

sector.

Bright Green has been created to identify and support environmental leaders. Everyone in our organisation has decided that the best use of our time, energies, and skills is to recruit current and future environmental leaders for our clients on both sides of the Atlantic. We work with corporations, start-ups, NGOs, and government agencies with a strong commitment to the environment and corporate social responsibility. We have also set up an office in California, and we are encouraging the brightest and best of our respective generations to dedicate their careers to promoting sustainability.

We want to help our candidates become leaders and we want to help our clients recruit leaders. We believe this is the best way of helping organisations improve society and our planet.

The Importance of Your eCommerce Site for Your Business

It is plain to see why a poorly designed website can be a major problem to online businesses, most especially during the holiday season, which covers 20% to 40% of the yearly sales.

In this regard, those who need data validation can refer to the stats that explain the importance of your brand's presence on the Internet:

  • Before people shop at a physical store, they often check websites of online stores.
  • Customers search online for the prices and availability of goods so they would know whether to shop online or at physical stores.
  • During an economic crisis, consumers exercise caution when shopping online to stretch their budget, resulting to an increase of website traffic.
  • Shoppers that tend to purchase downloadable gifts like eBooks, music and FB credits, among others, will likely buy more.

Optimize Your Online Site Immediately

Now that you are aware of your site's importance, what should you do before the holiday season approaches? It is never too late to try some of these strategies:

Prepare for unexpected traffic.Plan ahead of time to make sure that your site can manage all the orders. Anticipate peak loads, observe the responsiveness of your site and assessment application performance way before Cyber Monday.

Increase the speed of your site. Use a CDN (content delivery network) for a speedy delivery of relevant content with videos and images to your consumers.

During the holidays, most shoppers use their mobile devices to search online before heading for the stores. Therefore, it would be wise to incorporate an in-store experience with info regarding your well-timed and relevant personalized website and mobile apps.

Find ways to let the customers easily find your products on the web. To improve exposure, submit a feed to the top online shopping comparison engine, Google Product Search. Try the Amazon Marketplace or add pay-per-click ads to Amazon Product Ads' product and category pages. This way, shoppers will be able to view your ads when they find products that are similar to yours.

Although social media is not the main channel for searching, it has targeted the main stream and has since gained importance, specifically to GenY shoppers. Transform visitors into sales channels by including social sharing in product pages. Display good customer service in public by resolving issues with customers on networking sites like Facebook or Twitter.

People who are low on budget usually search online before buying, so it is a good idea to follow the example of various sites in making it fun, simple and efficient to shop on the web. Provide product filters, rich product details, comparison tools, well-designed navigation and recommendations. Enhance the images of your best-selling products, emphasize your value propositions and make sure that shipping and return policies are clear.

Fix your leaky conversion funnel immediately by adding simple and cost-efficient website usability and feedback tools.

Whenever possible, ask for the visitor's email address and try to squeeze a lot of value out of each sign-up.

Try to employ remarketing campaigns so you can target consumers who take time to buy.
